Albert Sambi Lokonga has signalled his desire to remain at Hamburger SV beyond this season, saying the stability and sense of belonging he has found at the club are more important to him than anything else in his career right now.

The 26-year-old Belgian midfielder joined Hamburg on a permanent deal from Arsenal last summer, having previously been loaned out to Crystal Palace, Luton Town and Sevilla โ€” a series of spells that kept him active but away from a settled environment.

Speaking to the Hamburger Abendblatt, Sambi Lokonga made his intentions plain.

"Yes, we have a project here and I feel very comfortable. That is the most important thing for me. I have moved a lot in recent years. You never know what's going to happen. But I want stability and a good feeling now, and that's what I have here."

Hamburg head coach Merlin Polzin has made the Belgian a consistent fixture in his midfield since the start of the season. The club are pushing for promotion back to the Bundesliga, with Hamburg currently among the automatic promotion places in the 2. Bundesliga.

Arsenal signed Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht in the summer of 2021 for โ‚ฌ17.5 million, and he made 56 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions before becoming surplus to requirements. His career in north London never truly gained traction, but the loan spells โ€” particularly at Sevilla โ€” helped him rebuild form and confidence.

At 26, he is now entering what should be the peak years of his career. If Hamburg secure promotion this season, Sambi Lokonga would be playing top-flight German football for the first time โ€” and on his own terms.
