Ask Football Presse and your privacy
Ask Football Presse answers your questions using only stories published by Football Presse. This section explains what happens to a question when you ask one.
What we keep
- Your question. We keep it for 30 days, with the time you asked, how our system understood it and whether we could answer it. After that it is deleted automatically. We use it to keep the service running, to stop misuse, to find and fix wrong answers, to improve the service, and to understand what readers want to know about.
- A scrambled code instead of your IP address. We use it to apply our question limits and to connect a follow-up question to your previous one. We turn your IP address into a one-way code using a secret value, and we never store the IP address itself. The code can't be turned back into your IP address. It is deleted with your question after 30 days.
- Saved answers. When a question is asked, we may save the answer for up to 24 hours (one hour for live match data), so the next reader who asks the same thing gets it faster. A saved answer contains the question's text, but no information about who asked.
- Anonymous counts. After questions are deleted, we may keep counts of what was asked, for example the most-asked-about clubs and players, or how many questions we could answer. These counts contain no question text and nothing that identifies you. We may share them with partners and sponsors.
- A small number of example questions. We may keep the wording of some questions for longer, to test and improve the service. We remove anything personal first, and nothing links them to who asked.
What we don't do
- We don't use cookies for Ask Football Presse, and you don't need an account.
- We don't use your questions to train any AI model.
- We never publish the words you type.
- We never sell or share your questions, or anything that identifies you.
Sponsorship
Some answers may show a sponsor's name or panel. Sponsors are chosen by the topic of your question, such as a club or a league, never by who you are. Sponsors receive no information about you, and Ask Football Presse doesn't load their tracking.
Your recent questions
The âYour questionsâ list on the page is stored only in your own browser, on your own device. We can't see it. You can delete it at any time with Clear.
AI processing
- What we send to OpenAI: to understand your question and write the answer, we send the text of your question, together with passages from our own stories.
- For a follow-up question: we also send how your previous question was understood (the names, clubs or dates in it), never its text.
- What we never send: your IP address, or anything else that identifies you.
- What OpenAI keeps: we ask OpenAI not to store these requests in its stored-requests feature, and our account is set not to share data with OpenAI. Under OpenAI's terms for its API, it doesn't use this data to train its models. It keeps the data for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse, unless the law requires longer.
Please don't include personal details in your questions, such as your name, contact details or health information.
Who else handles this data
We use these providers to run the service. They may process data outside Australia, including in the United States.
- Vercel: hosts the website.
- Railway: hosts the database where questions are kept for 30 days.
- Cloudflare: protects the site from attacks and excessive traffic.
- OpenAI: reads your question and helps write the answer.
Accuracy
Answers are written with the help of AI from Football Presse's own reporting, and each answer links to the stories it comes from. AI can make mistakes. If you spot one, please tell us at [email protected].
