Brighton and Sunderland are both showing concrete interest in Aston Villa midfielder Lamare Bogarde, according to Voetbal International, with the Dutchman valued at around €25m.

Bogarde, 22, made 44 official appearances for Villa last season — 22 as a starter — as the club finished fourth in the Premier League and won the Europa League, beating SC Freiburg 3-0 in the final. He is contracted until mid-2028.

Brighton are looking for a replacement for Carlos Baleba, who is expected to leave, while Sunderland are planning for the potential departure of Granit Xhaka, who is on his way to Chelsea. Both clubs view Bogarde as a natural fit for the gap they need to fill.

PSV Eindhoven had also enquired about the player, but the Dutch club quickly concluded he was not attainable at a realistic price. Brighton and Sunderland are both prepared to commit the funds needed.

Bogarde himself is understood to be open to a move that would give him a stronger guarantee of starting regularly. At Aston Villa, the competition for places and the depth of the squad has limited his involvement, and a club where he can be a more central figure is his priority.

The fee of around €25m may prove a significant barrier for Sunderland in particular, though Brighton's financial position makes them a more credible option at that level of investment. For Villa, selling a player under contract for two more years at that price would represent solid business.

For Villa, the situation is straightforward — if the right offer comes in, they have no reason to stand in the way of a player who wants more playing time and whose contract gives them leverage to negotiate a fair price.

The €25m valuation reflects Bogarde's potential more than his current output, and both Brighton and Sunderland will need to determine whether that figure represents good value for a player who has yet to cement a starting role at a major club.
