The Andalusians face NEC Nijmegen this Friday at 19:00 in Nijmegen's Goffertstadion, the latest step in preparations for a league campaign that begins on Saturday 25 August, when Sevilla host Rayo Vallecano at the Sánchez-Pizjuán.
Head coach Luis García Plaza is keeping a close eye on developments off the pitch, where the sporting department has several fronts open at once. The squad is not yet complete, and time is running short — above all, Sevilla still need to close a deal for a new number nine.
The club is also working to accelerate departures as fresh names get linked with the red-and-whites. According to the Portuguese outlet A Bola, Sevilla are among the clubs interested in signing Giorgi Kochorashvili, the Sporting midfielder who is also a target for Getafe. Sevilla have reportedly already made their interest known to the Portuguese club and are following the situation closely.
Getafe are said to be requesting a loan with an option to buy, but Sporting want that clause made obligatory, which would effectively turn the deal into a delayed sale. Even so, Getafe remain favourites to land the Georgia international.
The 26-year-old, born in Georgia in June 1999, joined Sporting from Levante for around €5.5m last year and has made 18 appearances for the Lisbon club since, having previously spent five seasons with Levante's first team and a loan spell at CD Castellón.
The NEC Nijmegen friendly is one of two matches Sevilla will play during an eight-day stage in the Netherlands that runs until 7 August, with a second test against FC Utrecht to follow on 2 August before the squad closes out its pre-season with a trip to Germany to face Bayer Leverkusen.
Sevilla travelled to the Netherlands with 28 players, including recent arrival Julio Díaz, who could make his debut against the Eredivisie side. With the transfer deadline approaching and the squad still short of a settled forward line, García Plaza will be watching both the pitch and the market with equal attention over the coming days.
