Manchester United's hierarchy gave the former midfielder more time after the 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth, but consecutive matches against Chelsea and Roma have done little to settle the uncertainty. Carrick's side lost at Stamford Bridge before ending a run of 10 games without a win with a Champions League comeback against Roma.
The defeat for Manchester City against Nottingham Forest subsequently pushed United into the bottom three, increasing the pressure ahead of Villa's visit to Old Trafford.
Asked whether he had been told he would remain in charge next week, Carrick said: "No. Just carry on as absolute normal.
"Whatever is going to happen is going to happen. I'm really looking forward to the next game, playing at home on the back of the other night.
"The supporters are hopefully looking forward to coming energised and feeling good about what they might see, and we've got to repay that."
Carrick insisted he was not preparing for an unusual international break, despite the uncertainty surrounding his position.
"Not really different to normal. Genuinely not. I think international breaks are always a time to re-energise and freshen up. Some of the players that go away to internationals get freshened up in a different environment, but I don't really need it. I'm fine as I am.
"We'll certainly train next week and maybe have the weekend off. We'll see how that develops, who's left behind, who's with us and what they need."
The manager also addressed his relationship with captain Bruno Fernandes, following the midfielder's criticism of his tactics after the Champions League defeat to Como and the decision to leave him out against Bournemouth.
Carrick played down suggestions of a breakdown between the pair and praised Fernandes for his response against Roma, when he scored a twice-taken penalty.
"There are always conversations, bits going on; acknowledging certain things of when things are going well, what we need to improve on as a group.
"Sometimes it's individually, sometimes it's group. We always have discussions. What's actually said in that discussion, I'll keep that to myself.
"But I think it's pretty clear we've moved in a good direction, and Bruno's commitment is undoubted for me in terms of what he brings to this team and this club.
"He showed that again this week by his actions, the way he's played and how he dealt with even retaking the penalty and the frame of mind he was in for that. I think that tells you everything. Bruno's as good as ever."
