The move is part of a broader swap between the two clubs, with striker Pietro Mulattieri heading the other way to Verona as part of the same reshuffle. Bowie, who scored four goals in 14 appearances after his January move to the Bentegodi, missed out on a switch to Cagliari, who had also been tracking the 23-year-old before Sassuolo moved decisively to get the deal done.
Born in Kirkcaldy, Bowie began his career at hometown club Raith Rovers, making four Scottish League One appearances at just 16 before a breakout campaign the following season, contributing 10 goals and six assists in 35 matches across league and cup competitions as Raith won the title and secured promotion.
That form caught Fulham's attention, and the London club signed him as a teenager in February, working him into their Under-21 setup from the 2020-21 season onward, where he managed 20 goals and four assists in 40 appearances over two years.
At 19 he moved on loan to fourth-tier Northampton Town, helping fire them to promotion with five goals before staying on for a season in League One, where he added nine goals and six assists.
He returned to Scotland in August 2024 with Hibernian, and it was after 15 goals and five assists in 52 appearances there — including debuts in the Conference League and Europa League — that Hellas Verona moved to sign him in the January window of the 2025-26 season.
Bowie has also made his mark internationally, representing Scotland's Under-21s from the age of 18 and scoring three goals in 11 appearances before earning a call-up to the senior squad, making his debut in a 4-0 win over Liechtenstein.
The move gives Sassuolo fresh attacking depth as they prepare for a second season back in Serie A following last year's promotion, with the loan-to-buy structure allowing the club to assess Bowie's fit before committing to a permanent deal once the agreed conditions are triggered.
Standing 1.87m, he offers a different profile up front to much of Sassuolo's existing forward line, and the club's official statement closed with a simple welcome from the squad: "From the whole neroverde family, welcome Kieron!"
