Vušković, 19, spoke to Kicker in the mixed zone after Saturday's 3-2 victory over SC Freiburg, in which he scored Hamburg's second goal. He was substituted alongside fellow loanee Fabio Vieira in stoppage time to a standing ovation from the Hamburg supporters — a farewell gesture from head coach Merlin Polzin.
"It's a special moment. I'm very happy that I could help this team. And I'm very happy that I was allowed to be part of this club."
He had further context for the emotion of the afternoon. His brother Mario, who joined Hamburg from Hajduk Split but is currently serving a doping ban until November 2026, was in the stadium watching alongside the rest of the family.
Polzin paid tribute to both players publicly after the match.
"I had the privilege of coaching these players for a year, and I'm very happy about that because they played a superb season. No one needs to worry that we won't be ready next year."
Vušković is joint-top scorer at the club alongside Vieira with six goals each. He returns to Tottenham with a contract running until June 2030 — though that deal is expected to be significantly improved as part of Spurs' efforts to resist interest from Barcelona, who have held talks with his agent Pini Zahavi.
Vieira's situation is less certain. The Portuguese midfielder is contracted to Arsenal, who are not expected to exercise the €20million purchase option, making a return to north London likely. Hamburg would like to keep him but the price makes that near-impossible according to Kicker.
