The Reds, who continue to work on a deal for Paris Saint-Germain's £145m-rated Bradley Barcola, are looking to add to their attacking options rather than subtract from them, reports the Daily Mail.
Gakpo, 27, is contracted until 2030, and with current market prices escalating for players of his experience, it would take a huge sum to change Liverpool's stance; reports elsewhere have suggested a fee approaching €85m would be required, a figure that would value Gakpo slightly above the roughly £70m Barcelona paid Newcastle for Anthony Gordon.
The Dutchman had a weaker season than usual last time out under new manager Andoni Iraola, scoring only nine goals, but is highly valued by Liverpool all the same. His best season, 2024-25, saw him score 18 goals and add six assists in all competitions, a return bettered only by Mohamed Salah among Liverpool's squad that year.
Liverpool have already lost Salah this summer, and their only attacking arrival so far has been winger Víctor Muñoz from Osasuna for £34.5m. They paid PSV £44m for Gakpo in 2022, and he has gone on to score 50 goals and add 23 assists in 180 appearances for the club.
Tottenham are also keeping a watching brief on Omar Marmoush at Manchester City, as well as negotiating for Savinho, with head coach Roberto De Zerbi keen to add at least one more wide attacker after already strengthening his defence and midfield this summer.
Liverpool are not actively pushing Gakpo towards the exit, but would be prepared to talk business at the right price, with any sale likely conditional on landing Barcola first, and the emergence of teenager Rio Ngumoha adding further competition for a starting berth out wide regardless of how the Barcola pursuit is resolved.
