Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the permanent departure of striker Alejo Véliz, with the 22-year-old Argentine joining Brazilian top-flight club Bahia on a contract running until 2031.

Véliz joined Spurs from Rosario Central in the summer of 2023 and made eight first-team appearances for the club, scoring a Premier League goal against Brighton in December of that year. He subsequently had loan spells at Sevilla and Espanyol in Spain before returning to Rosario on loan for the 2025/26 season.

Tottenham confirmed the move in an official statement.

"We have reached agreement with Bahia for the transfer of Alejo Véliz, who will join the Brazilian club on 1 July," the club said. "Striker Alejo joined us from Rosario Central in his home country of Argentina during the summer of 2023 and made eight first team appearances in our colours, scoring a Premier League goal against Brighton & Hove Albion in December of that year.

"He subsequently enjoyed loan spells in Spain with Sevilla and Espanyol before returning to Rosario on loan last July for the 2025/26 season. Alejo is now set to move to the Brazilian top flight on a permanent basis — we wish him well for the future."

The move ends a Tottenham career that never truly got off the ground, with Véliz unable to break into the first team during a difficult period for the club.

Bahia offered Véliz a pathway to regular first-team football that was not available to him at Spurs, and the length of the deal — running until 2031 — signals the Brazilian club's genuine commitment to building around him.

At 22, Véliz still has significant room to develop. His time in England and on loan in Spain gave him exposure to competitive European football, and a settled period at a club that views him as a key player may be the catalyst that allows him to fulfil the potential that attracted Tottenham in the first place. The move brings an end to a chapter that promised more than it ultimately delivered at Spurs, but opens a new one with genuine upside.
