Thrilled Ekhator completes Juventus transfer from Genoa

Juventus

Juventus have completed the permanent signing of forward Jeff Ekhator from Genoa in a deal worth around €18 million, including bonuses.

The 19-year-old, born in Genoa in November 2006, has signed a contract with Juventus running until 30 June 2031.

Announcing the move, Juventus described Ekhator as a forward with great physicality, pace and the ability to operate across the entire front line, allied to a strong goalscoring instinct and a willingness to work for the team.

Ekhator came through Genoa's youth academy from the age of eight, progressing through every age group before reaching the first team. He made his Serie A debut in August 2024 and scored his first top-flight goal two months later, going on to make 57 appearances in all competitions for Genoa, scoring five goals.

He is the only player born in 2006 to have made at least 50 Serie A appearances over the last two seasons, and the youngest Italian across Europe's top five leagues and their second divisions to reach that mark in the period.

Ekhator has also been a regular at youth level for Italy and made his senior international debut on 7 June against Greece, setting up a goal on his first appearance.

Speaking to Juventus's official channels after completing his move, Ekhator described the moment he learned of the club's interest.

"First of all I called my agent, then I spoke to my father and my family, obviously. They told me to stay calm, that this is an opportunity that comes around once. Then we decided to come here, the best choice for my career, to grow, and I think it's the right thing for me."

Asked about his best position, Ekhator explained how his game has developed in recent seasons.

"I'm a player who attacks in behind, mainly. But in the last few years I've also learned to play with the team a bit more, not just make runs, but help them by holding the ball up. There are a lot of things I still need to improve, and I think I'm in the right team to do that. With the boss (Luciano Spalletti), I think there's a way to grow even more."

On what it means to him to wear the Juventus shirt, Ekhator added a final thought.

"On a personal level it's an immense joy because it's a huge club, it's won so much, it's always at the top, it carries so many values. For someone young like me it's an extra source of pride. The Allianz Stadium made a big impression on me, I can't wait to get started."
