The Belgium international, born in Ostend and raised between Kenya and Belgium, signed from Lille in 2014 as a largely unknown 19-year-old and went on to make 175 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 41 goals.
Only 68 of those appearances came from the start, but his impact from the bench reached heights that few substitutes in Premier League history can match.
His goals in the 2019 Champions League semi-final comeback against Barcelona at Anfield β Liverpool won 4-0 having lost the first leg 3-0 β and then in the final victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid became defining moments in the club's history. JΓΌrgen Klopp's wild, sprinting celebration of a last-minute Origi winner in a Merseyside derby against Everton in 2018 became one of the most enduring images of that era.
Origi announced the decision on social media.
"My purpose in the game as a player is fulfilled. I lived out my childhood dreams to play on the biggest stages and win the biggest trophies. I am grateful to God for all of it. To my fans across the world who helped me shine β every iconic moment, every goal, every piece of history we made together will forever be ours. The mission is complete. Now I step into my next calling."
He also won the Premier League title and made 32 senior appearances for Belgium, scoring three times. After leaving Liverpool, he moved to AC Milan on a free transfer before a season-long loan at Nottingham Forest in 2024. He was 31 at retirement.
