Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com afterwards, Iraola said the manner of the result made it a valuable exercise regardless of the scoreline.
"I think we learn a lot of things. Obviously it's not the result you want but I think it was probably the most useful friendly we played – in a positive way in the first half and in a negative way in the second half. I think we've learned a lot from today and I think we can take good conclusions and solve some things," he said.
It was the first appearance of the summer for Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Ryan Gravenberch, all returning after extended breaks following their involvement at this summer's World Cup.
Iraola felt the two forwards who started the game had the more straightforward afternoon.
"I think they did really good. They played their first 45 minutes. Obviously Florian and Alex, because they were playing in the first half, they had an easier game or a better game," he said.
Gravenberch, introduced from the bench, was withdrawn again before the hour mark, though Iraola played down any concern.
"Ryan, it was costly for him. Jeremie asked for the sub but I don't think it's an injury. It was just some overload and I hope he's not injured in that way. I don't think we've lost anyone," he said.
Reflecting on the tour as a whole, which also included matches against Wrexham and other opposition before the trip to Chicago, Iraola praised the effort of Liverpool's staff and the scale of support the club commands even outside England.
"You all work very well! At the end, you can see straight away that this is a massive club with all the supporters that we have, even overseas. We want to get ready for the start of the season – that is when people want to see us play well and get results," he said.
Liverpool's final pre-season fixture before the Premier League campaign begins is against Monaco at Anfield on August 9.
