Newcastle United are looking to broaden their search for emerging talent across Africa, with a new recruitment role designed to identify players at different levels of the continent’s football pyramid.

The club is advertising a permanent Scouting Analyst position focused on African football. The successful applicant will assess prospective signings primarily through video, research leagues and competitions, and monitor academies and the routes players take into senior football.

The role will also involve attending selected matches and travelling domestically or internationally when required. Newcastle’s official careers listing gives a closing date of 2 November 2026.

The appointment forms part of sporting director Ross Wilson’s work to develop the club’s recruitment department and expand its knowledge of potential markets. The position is based in Newcastle upon Tyne and sits within football operations.

Newcastle have previously signed several notable African players, including Senegalese striker Papiss Cissé, Nigerian forward Obafemi Martins, DR Congo-born attacker Lomana LuaLua, Senegal international Demba Ba, Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu and Ivorian midfielder Cheick Tioté.

The new position is intended to provide more detailed coverage of a broad talent pool, allowing the club to identify prospects through video analysis before deciding whether further assessment or live scouting is needed.

The advertised responsibilities include analysing players across multiple levels of African football and building knowledge of local competitions, academies and development pathways. That work could help Newcastle spot players before they attract wider attention, although the advert does not identify specific countries or targets.

The role is listed under the title African Scout Analyst. Newcastle describes the wider recruitment ambition as using insight to improve decision-making, with the new position dedicated to strengthening the club’s understanding of the continent’s football markets.

Applications remain open until 2 November, according to Newcastle United’s recruitment listing.
