Daniel Banjaqui’s emergence at Benfica has reportedly put the young right-back on the radar of several major European clubs, with Manchester United, Newcastle United and Barcelona among those monitoring his development.

Goal reported that Barcelona had renewed their interest in the 18-year-old, who has begun making the transition into senior football. Manchester United and Newcastle are also said to be tracking him ahead of a possible move next summer.

The reported competition extends well beyond those three clubs. Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Brighton and Tottenham have also been linked with Banjaqui, alongside Juventus, Roma, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, Atlético Madrid and Real Sociedad.

Benfica have already moved to protect their position. The Portuguese club confirmed in April that Banjaqui had signed a new contract running until 2031, giving them considerable control over any potential negotiations.

The agreement reportedly includes an €80 million release clause. However, Fotbolltransfers reported that a negotiated fee could be lower, with figures of €35 million to €40 million mentioned in connection with the defender. That remains a reported valuation rather than an agreed price, and there is no confirmation that any interested club has made a formal offer.

Banjaqui has been at Benfica since 2018/19, progressing through the club’s youth system before making his senior debut during the 2025/26 campaign. He has also represented Portugal at youth level and was part of the national team that won the under-17 World Cup.

His development has gathered pace over the past year, although he is still at an early stage of his senior career. Interested clubs will therefore be weighing his first-team performances against the potential for further improvement.

Benfica’s contract extension means they are not under immediate pressure to sell. Any prospective buyer would need to decide whether to pursue a deal despite the defender’s long-term commitment to the Lisbon club.

For now, the interest remains at the monitoring and reporting stage. A transfer battle could develop if one of the clubs involved decides to turn its interest into a formal approach.
