The 19-year-old forward did not feature in the match, but the call-up marked a significant milestone only a few months after he moved to England to join Newcastle’s academy.
Cá arrived at the club in July following the expiry of his contract with Levante. Newcastle confirmed the signing of the Guinea-Bissau-born attacker as part of their plans to recruit young players with room to develop.
His progress has been swift. Before moving to England, Cá had already experienced senior football in Portugal, having made his first-team debut for Amora during the 2024–25 campaign. He had also scored 13 goals in 31 appearances at youth level for the Portuguese club in the previous season.
Levante brought him to Spain in 2025, but his first season there was interrupted by registration difficulties and he did not establish himself as a regular starter. He scored four goals for the club’s under-19 side before his contract expired.
Newcastle United moved to secure his services last summer, seeing an opportunity to bring in a young forward who had already gained experience in two countries.
Cá had made 27 appearances in all competitions for Levante’s under-19s in his final season in Spain. His move to Newcastle gave him a new environment in which to continue his development and compete for a place in the academy pathway.
“I’m a forward who likes to find space, link play and work hard for the team,” Cá said when joining the club. “Scoring goals is a big part of my game, but my focus is always on contributing to the group, whatever helps the team win.”
Newcastle’s sporting director Ross Wilson said the club was pleased to bring him into the academy, pointing to his development in Portugal and Spain. Academy director Steve Harper also highlighted the recruitment team’s work in identifying young players with potential to progress.
Cá has begun settling into life in England and has reportedly contributed three goals and an assist for Newcastle’s second team. His inclusion in the matchday group against Aston Villa suggests he has made a positive early impression, although a first-team appearance remains a further step to come.
The forward’s route has taken him from Amora to Levante and now Newcastle in a relatively short period. The latest call-up does not guarantee a place in the senior side, but it offers an encouraging indication of how quickly he is adapting to his new club.
