Kiat asks Peter Lim to delay Valencia sale

Kiat Lim has reportedly asked his father Peter not to sell Valencia for now, with the club president said to be keen to retain control of the club’s direction.

The report, published by MARCA, says Kiat raised the issue with a former Valencia executive during a conversation in Singapore a couple of weeks ago. The family has not announced a sale process, and the club remains under the control of Peter Lim.

Talk of a potential sale has resurfaced repeatedly as Valencia’s sporting fortunes have declined and plans for the new Mestalla stadium have moved forward. The redevelopment of the club’s commercial prospects, alongside the sale of land connected to the old stadium, had encouraged speculation that the ownership might consider an exit.

However, Kiat is said to believe the time is not right to sell. The current president reportedly feels comfortable in his role and wants to remain directly involved in decisions affecting the club, following recent changes in the football department and coaching structure.

Valencia dismissed Carlos Corberán after a poor start to the season, while Ron Gourlay also left his role. Braulio Vázquez arrived to take charge of the sporting side, with Javier Aguirre brought into the coaching setup. Those decisions have placed Kiat more visibly at the centre of the club’s operations.

The report says Kiat has visited Valencia more frequently in recent months than his father, who bought the club in 2014. He is also said to have begun receiving calls from influential figures in football, despite the hostility that remains among many supporters towards the Lim family.

A sale has not been ruled out permanently, but the latest account suggests the family’s immediate intention is to continue running Valencia rather than seek a buyer. Kiat reportedly discussed future seasons, staffing and the financial opportunities that could be created by the new stadium with the former executive.

The project is expected to increase Valencia’s commercial capacity, particularly if the club can build on its established supporter base and improve matchday revenues. Yet those potential gains remain tied to the stadium’s completion and the team’s ability to become more competitive.

For now, the club’s future remains in the hands of the Lim family. The reported request from Kiat would mean continuity in ownership at a time when fans continue to demand a clearer sporting plan and stronger results on the pitch.
