Manuel Neuer has extended his contract until 2027, Jonas Urbig has been identified as the long-term successor, and Nübel — having spent his entire Bayern tenure out on loan — has been told he has no future at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed this week that the club intends to sell the Germany international, with Sport Bild reporting that Juventus and Manchester City have emerged as the principal suitors.
Nübel, 29, joins the summer market as a player of genuine quality seeking the starting role he has never been allowed to hold at his contracted club. During three seasons on loan at VfB Stuttgart he established himself as one of the Bundesliga's most reliable goalkeepers, making 31 appearances this season as the Swabian club finished fourth and qualified for the Champions League.
Juventus' interest is straightforward. The Turin club have been pursuing Liverpool's Alisson Becker as their primary goalkeeping target, but Liverpool are unwilling to sell. With that route blocked, Nübel has emerged as the more accessible alternative for a club that needs a top-level goalkeeper capable of performing in the Champions League without transition time.
Manchester City's interest is different in nature. new manager Enzo Maresca is set to inherit Gianluigi Donnarumma as his first-choice keeper following the Italian's high-profile move from Paris Saint-Germain last year, but wants a backup of sufficient quality to provide genuine competition. City's current understudy options are considered below the standard Maresca demands, and James Trafford — whose future at the Etihad Stadium has also been questioned — may push for a loan exit to secure regular playing time.
Bayern are seeking between €10 million and €15 million for the player — a figure that significantly undervalues his quality but reflects the club's desire for a clean, uncomplicated sale. Neither Juventus nor City are expected to baulk at that range.
The delay in completing a deal will likely be Nübel's own. He has options and is not under pressure to accept the first offer that arrives.
