Genesis Antwi has completed a season-long loan move to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, becoming the first Chelsea player to join the sister club this summer.

The 19-year-old right-back, full name Genesis Kofi Koranteng Antwi, was born in Stockholm to Ghanaian parents and joined Chelsea's academy as an Under-12 after his family moved to England, developing through the age groups at Cobham ever since. He started out in Hammarby's youth system in Sweden before that switch, and has been a regular for Chelsea's Under-21 side over the past two seasons.

He made a pair of senior appearances in 2024-25, coming off the bench in Conference League wins against FC Copenhagen and Djurgården at Stamford Bridge, both games forming part of the run that saw Chelsea lift the trophy under then-head coach Enzo Maresca; his senior debut had actually come slightly earlier, in a 1-0 win over Copenhagen in March 2025.

A Sweden Under-21 international who first represented England at youth level before switching allegiance, Antwi signed a new three-year contract with Chelsea last September, with the club holding an option to extend it by a further two years.

Not part of Xabi Alonso's first-team plans for the coming season, he follows the well-trodden path taken by fellow academy products such as Mike Penders, Aaron Anselmino and David Datro Fofana, all of whom spent last season on loan at Strasbourg under Chelsea's BlueCo ownership structure, and is the first Chelsea player to head to the sister club this summer, with Mykhailo Mudryk among those who could follow him there.

At 1.89m tall, Antwi is regarded internally as a long-term option at right-back, with Strasbourg expected to give him the regular senior football that has been hard to come by at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea said they would monitor his progress closely and wished him luck for the campaign ahead in the French top flight.
