Juventus have loaned out the Montenegrin midfielder with both an option and a counter-option to buy him back, a structure that lets the Turin club keep tabs on a player they paid €7.2m to sign back in 2024.
Sassuolo's official statement traced his path in detail: born in Nikšić, Montenegro, Adzic began playing for hometown side Polet Stars before joining Budućnost, for whom he debuted at just 16 and scored after only nine minutes on the pitch, becoming the second-youngest goalscorer in the history of Montenegro's top flight.
He went on to make 23 appearances with three goals and three assists in a title-winning debut campaign, before establishing himself as a starter the following season with 35 league appearances, six goals and three assists, plus five games and a goal in a cup triumph and an assist in two Conference League qualifiers.
That form convinced Juventus to sign him in August 2024, and the club used him across both the Under-23 side and the first team from the outset: his Serie A debut came on 19 October, followed shortly after by appearances in the Champions League and Coppa Italia.
He scored four goals in ten Next Gen appearances during the 2024-25 campaign before becoming a regular fixture with the first team, netting his first senior goal deep into stoppage time of a 4-3 Derby d'Italia win with a long-range strike.
A Montenegro youth international since Under-15 level, scoring 11 times in 35 appearances across those age groups, he scored on his senior international debut against Armenia on 9 June 2025. He now joins up with Alberto Aquilani's squad, replacing the injured Ismaël Koné, who was hurt during Canada's World Cup meeting with Qatar.
Sassuolo's business does not stop there. The club are waiting on a response from Sheffield United's Femi Seriki over a proposed loan with a €5m buy option, having already tabled an offer worth around €1m up front for the Manchester-born right-back, who has made 73 appearances over his last two seasons in the Championship. Sassuolo also remain interested in free agent Francesco Acerbi, according to Gazzetta di Modena. The 38-year-old centre-back, out of contract since leaving Inter Milan, is prioritising a move to a top club, but Sassuolo remain an appealing fallback option should no such offer arrive.
In midfield, Freuler, also currently without a club, remains a target too, though Bologna have not given up hope of keeping him.
