Tottenham's first-team academy transition coach, Stuart Lewis, has ended an 11-year association with the north London club to join O'Neil's backroom team. Lewis began his career at Tottenham as a player before returning as a coach in 2015, and is credited with helping Luca Williams-Barnett and Jun'ai Byfield make their first-team debuts last season, with Mikey Moore, Will Lankshear and Callum Olusesi also among his proteges.
A boyhood Tottenham supporter, Lewis marked the move with an emotional statement on the club's website.
"Returning to my boyhood club as a coach 11 years ago was a dream come true. Having supported Tottenham Hotspur since I was five years old and previously represented the Club as a young professional, it was a privilege to come back and help develop the next generation of players.
"My family and I have supported the Club all our lives, so I have always understood what it means to represent Tottenham Hotspur and the identity our teams should embody; brave, attacking, front-foot football.
"While those trophies were incredibly special, I always knew that the primary objective was to develop players capable of progressing to the first team. I have no doubt it won't be long before more Academy graduates are gracing our brilliant stadium.
"I would like to thank everyone at the Club for their support and for allowing me to pursue this fantastic opportunity at Ipswich Town, which enables me to fulfil my ambition of coaching in the Premier League. I leave with immense pride, gratitude and lifelong memories, and I wish everyone connected with Tottenham Hotspur every success in the future."
On the pitch, Ipswich Town are also closing in on a £20m deal for Leicester winger Abdul Fatawu, who was undergoing a medical at the club on Monday. The Ghana international scored 16 goals in 100 games for the Foxes since initially arriving on loan from Sporting Lisbon in 2023, and would become O'Neil's fourth summer signing following the arrivals of striker Emersonn from Toulouse for around £26m and the permanent deals for loanees Cedric Kipre and Chuba Akpom.
O'Neil took charge at Portman Road after Kieran McKenna left in May despite guiding the club to a second Premier League promotion.
For Leicester, the sale continues a wholesale rebuild under new manager Russell Martin as the club adjusts to life in League One following relegation. Jeremy Monga has already joined Manchester City and Harry Winks has moved to Cagliari, while Victor Kristiansen is on loan at Panathinaikos. Jannik Vestergaard's contract was terminated by mutual consent, and Patson Daka, Ricardo Pereira and Jordan Ayew were among the senior players released after the drop.
