Hamburg have confirmed they intend to open talks with Tottenham Hotspur over extending the loan of Luka Vušković, whose debut Bundesliga season has drawn interest from Barcelona and several other major clubs.

Hamburg's sporting director Claus Costa confirmed that Vušković, along with five other loanees including Arsenal's Fábio Vieira, will return to their parent clubs on July 1 as things stand, but said the club wants to explore all available options.

"Fabio and Luka certainly stand out as key players of the past season, but all the loaned players also contributed to us achieving our season goal ahead of schedule in our first year back in the Bundesliga. Regarding a possible future with HSV, we will be holding talks with the various parties in the coming days."

Vušković made 30 appearances for Hamburg this season, scoring six goals from centre-back — a remarkable return for a teenage defender in a competitive European league. He also leads the division's centre-backs in clearances and aerial duels won.

The player himself has expressed a desire to remain in Hamburg next season, partly because his older brother Mario is serving a doping ban that expires in November and currently plays for the club.

Tottenham are under no obligation to sanction a further loan and are simultaneously working on a new improved contract for Vušković, who signed a five-year deal on relatively modest wages when he joined from Hajduk Split in July 2025. Sporting director Johan Lange has already travelled to Hamburg in person to hold talks with the player about his long-term future. Barcelona have made contact with Vušković's agent, Pini Zahavi, according to multiple reports, while Liverpool and Chelsea have also been credited with interest.

Vušković has a contract with Tottenham until 2030, giving the club full control over his future regardless of the noise around him this summer.
