Having wrapped up the club's centenary celebrations, Napoli's hierarchy have returned to work both on the pitch at Castel di Sangro and behind the scenes to strengthen the squad. Favasuli, a 22-year-old right-back at Catanzaro, is close to becoming Napoli's new back-up to Giovanni Di Lorenzo, with the two clubs working on a deal in the region of €8-10m.
His agent, Mario Giuffredi, has already made clear how highly the club rate him: "He deserves to stay involved with the national team, he's shown his quality.
"I see a bit of Di Lorenzo in him from when he first arrived at Napoli, even if the characteristics are different. He can become an important player: he's going to leave, and he has several offers from Serie A."
Favasuli only made his senior debut with Ternana before an impressive season at Catanzaro in Serie B, and Fiorentina retain a 20% sell-on clause on any future resale.
Napoli are also busy on the outgoing side of their business. Left-back Miguel Gutiérrez is close to a move to Bayer Leverkusen for around €30m, with the transfer awaiting final sign-off, while forward Jesper Lindstrøm is set to complete a switch to Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga, with an announcement expected imminently.
On the incoming front, Napoli are also closing in on a deal to sign Chelsea centre-back Benoit Badiashile, with the two clubs progressing positively toward an agreement, according to Footmercato.
The structure under discussion is a loan with an option to buy, and the France international, 25, has already given the move his blessing, seeing Napoli as an appealing destination to relaunch his career after a difficult spell in the Premier League, in which he made just 16 appearances last season following his move from Monaco.
Further talks are expected in the coming days as the two clubs work out the final details, with growing optimism that a deal can be completed; reports in Italy suggest the loan fee would be in the region of €2-3m, with a buy option set at around €18-20m. Were the deal to go through, Napoli would add an internationally experienced defender to their backline, while Chelsea would allow the 2001-born centre-back to find greater game time ahead of the new season.
