Gaaei was speaking after Ajax's 2-2 draw with PSV Eindhoven at the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Saturday, a match in which Godts once again proved decisive with an assist and a goal in the final minutes.
Scouts from Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona had been in attendance specifically to watch the Belgian, with Manchester United, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and several other major clubs also understood to have placed him on their summer watchlist.
It has been an extraordinary individual season for Godts. In 30 Eredivisie appearances he has scored 17 goals and contributed 12 assists โ numbers that have made him the division's standout performer and, statistically, one of only three players in Europe's top seven leagues alongside Lamine Yamal and Kenan Yildiz to record 70 or more chances created and 70 or more completed take-ons in the same campaign.
Gaaei did not hesitate when asked where his teammate might end up.
"I think it is completely obvious that he is our most important player. I am so happy for him. He works incredibly hard every day in training."
He added: "He scores goals and gives a lot of assists, but also helps the team in pressing."
When asked specifically about Godts' future, Gaaei was direct.
"I would not be at all surprised if the biggest clubs in the world come calling for him. He has the potential to play for any team in the world. If he continues like this, the sky is the limit."
Ajax want to keep Godts and he has previously said he does not wish to leave before winning a trophy with the club. He also reiterated his stance to ESPN after being named Eredivisie Talent of the Month for April.
"I've heard about it, but fortunately this is not decided in a TV studio. The people within the club and at other clubs decide that. I hope to experience a great World Cup first, and then I'll just come back here and hit the ground running next season."
Whether Ajax can hold firm when concrete offers arrive is a separate question. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the club is aware that Godts is likely to move this summer and that serious interest from the elite level is real. His contract runs until 2029 and Ajax will demand a substantial fee, with estimates ranging between โฌ25 million and โฌ65 million depending on the report.
