Coventry City have added goalkeeper Jack Ruddy to their under-21 squad, with manager Frank Lampard signing the son of a former England team-mate, according to The Sun.
The 18-year-old joined the Sky Blues five weeks after leaving Norwich City, and follows in the footsteps of his father John Ruddy, who made over 240 appearances for Norwich across two spells and also played for Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United, leaving St James' Park when his contract expired at the end of last season.
John, now 39, won his only England cap under Roy Hodgson in a 2-1 friendly win over Italy in Bern in August 2012, coming on for debutant Jack Butland at half-time and making several key saves as goals from Phil Jagielka and Jermain Defoe overturned an early Daniele De Rossi opener.
Frank Lampard, now Coventry's manager, captained England that night, meaning the pair were international team-mates 14 years before being reunited at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Jack progressed through Norwich's academy after being offered scholarship terms in 2023, having previously represented Wales at under-15 and under-16 level before switching allegiance.
Had he stayed at Carrow Road, he would have been in line to emulate Angus and Bryan Gunn as only the second father-son goalkeeping pairing to feature for the Canaries, following Bryan's 12-year playing career at the club and Angus's subsequent breakthrough into the first team.
He joined Coventry's under-21 squad this summer alongside a clutch of new academy signings, including arrivals from Brighton & Hove Albion, Aston Villa and Wycombe Wanderers, as Lampard's club continue preparations for their return to the Premier League.
Coventry's under-21 side finished 15th in the Professional Development League last season, winning 11 of their 28 games, and will be looking to Ruddy to add competition for places between the posts alongside fellow goalkeeper Eliot Meredith. Sharing a photo of Jack at Coventry's stadium, his mother Laura wished him well for what she called a "new beginning" after a difficult few years in the game.
