The Morocco international, who scored eight goals in 39 appearances during a loan spell with Frosinone in 2023-24, has re-emerged as a target for the Ciociari as they look to add firepower up front.
Frosinone's interest sits within an already crowded field, with Padova having made contact earlier before Hellas Verona subsequently entered the race with a more concrete offer.
According to Sky Sport, presidents Aurelio De Laurentiis of Napoli and Maurizio Stirpe of Frosinone have now spoken directly to gauge the availability of the forward.
For the 28-year-old, a return to Frosinone would mark a welcome reunion with a club where he already enjoyed a positive spell in Serie A. Negotiations remain open and far from straightforward, however, given the continued competition from both Verona and Padova. Cheddira's career has largely been built across various divisions of Italian football, with his only foreign experience coming during 2024-25 at Espanyol in La Liga, where he registered one goal and one assist in 22 appearances.
Elsewhere in Frosinone's camp, midfielder Giacomo Calò has been reflecting on the mood at the club's pre-season retreat on the Terminillo.
Speaking to Sky Sport, Calò said he saw similarities with last season's group: "I see a team similar to last year's: young, a group of hard workers who follow the coach. And the more experienced players will need to bring certain ideas to the younger ones."
For Calò, who turns 29 this season, the upcoming campaign will be his first taste of Serie A after progressing through the lower divisions with several clubs. Asked about the achievement, he reflected on the timing of his own path to the top flight.
"Everything has its time - if I hadn't got there sooner, maybe it's also because I made some mistakes or wasn't ready. After a season like last year's, I think this is the right reward and also a real source of satisfaction."
