Deportivo have completed the permanent signing of Jonathan Asp Jensen from Bayern Munich, with the 20-year-old Dane becoming the club's fifth arrival of the summer following Teun Gijselhart, Leo Roman, Bright Ede and, most recently, Lorenzo Amatucci.

As with each of those previous signings, Asp Jensen has put pen to paper on a long-term contract, running until 2031, underlining the technical department's commitment to building for the future.

Deportivo La Coruna won the race for his signature ahead of interest from mainly Italian clubs, including Udinese and Lazio, with an agreement in place since the middle of last week even though it was only finalised on Monday.

Capable of playing in several roles across the final third of midfield, the Dane gives Deportivo fresh attacking options through the middle of the pitch. The club's ambitious young project following their return to the top flight, along with the greater opportunities he could find in A Coruna, ultimately convinced both the player and his parent club, Bayern Munich, to sanction the move. German media have reported the fee at around โ‚ฌ6m, with Bayern retaining a percentage of any future sale.

Opportunities were limited for Asp Jensen at Bayern Munich, prompting him to seek a move where he could establish himself. He spent last season on loan at Grasshoppers in Switzerland, having progressed through Bayern's academy system, and made 40 appearances in the Swiss top flight, scoring nine goals and providing six assists.

He also made his Bundesliga debut with Bayern's first team and was included in a Champions League squad for the German giants.

Standing at 1.82m, Asp Jensen profiles as a sizeable attacking midfielder who will add further competition to Deportivo's advanced areas, given his favoured position is just behind the strikers. The Galician club now boast considerable depth in that area of the pitch, with Mario Soriano, Mella, Yeremay, Luismi and now Asp Jensen all vying for a role.

One of the storylines of pre-season will be whether head coach Antonio Hidalgo continues to deploy Joker at the base of midfield or gives him more direct competition for the number ten role from the promising young Dane.

The signing continues a busy summer for Deportivo's recruitment team, who have moved quickly to secure long-term deals as the club builds towards life back in the top flight.

Asp Jensen is expected to link up with his new teammates for pre-season training in the coming days, with the club hopeful his physical profile and creative instincts can make an impact once the new campaign gets under way.
