The 37-year-old Republic of Ireland captain joined the club from Sligo Rovers in January 2009 for just Β£60,000 and leaves as the holder of the club's Premier League appearance record, having made 372 top-flight appearances β surpassing former goalkeeper Tim Howard's tally in 2024.
Across all competitions he has made 433 appearances, tying him with Dixie Dean and Leon Osman, with two games of the season remaining in which he could add to that total.
"After more than 17 years at this great football club, I've decided this season will be my last as a player here. Coming over here as a 20-year-old from Sligo Rovers to a reserve team, I was just hoping to impress enough to get on the bench. To think I've gone on to make the most Premier League appearances for Everton and to become captain of this great football club β it was beyond my wildest dreams."
Coleman was named club captain in 2019 and has captained the side 140 times. He won Everton's Players' Player of the Year and Supporters' Player of the Year in 2013-14 and was named in the PFA Team of the Year that season. He was signed by manager David Moyes, who remains in charge today.
His final home game will be Sunday's fixture against Sunderland at Hill Dickinson Stadium, where he will likely receive a formal send-off from supporters who have backed him for close to two decades.
"I want to thank the fans for their unbelievable support. You've helped me in more ways than you could imagine. I live in the city β I see you all daily β and I've taken your love of the football club back into the dressing room to explain to the lads how much Everton means to the people."
"Thank you for making me a better captain and team-mate. It's an incredible football club with incredible people."
Everton have offered Coleman a coaching role at the club, though he has said he will decide his future over the summer. He has not ruled out continuing to play for the Republic of Ireland or at another club.
His final Premier League appearance came in November's 1-0 win over Manchester United, when he went off after ten minutes with a hamstring injury. He was 37 years old and still getting into the opposition half.
