Claudio Ranieri leaves Roma advisory role as club backs Gian Piero Gasperini project

AS Roma

Roma have confirmed Claudio Ranieri has left his role as technical advisor, with the club publicly backing head coach Gian Piero Gasperini as they move into a new phase.

Ranieri returned to Roma in a senior off-field capacity after previously stepping in to help stabilise the club during a difficult period. His experience and standing within the game made him a key figure behind the scenes, particularly during another time of change in the Italian capital.

However, Roma have now announced the end of that relationship and made clear their focus is fully on the future under Gasperini.

Roma said: “AS Roma announces that the relationship with Claudio Ranieri has ended.

“The Club wishes to thank Claudio for his significant contribution to Roma.

“He guided the team in a very difficult moment and we will always be grateful for his efforts.

“Looking to the future, our direction is clear. The Club is solid, with strong leadership and a well-defined vision.

“AS Roma will always come first.

“We have full confidence in the path that lies ahead under the technical guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini, with the shared objective of growing, improving and achieving results worthy of our history.”

The wording of the statement strongly suggests Roma are drawing a line under recent internal uncertainty and placing full authority behind Gasperini.

The former Atalanta boss was brought in to lead a fresh long-term project after building a reputation as one of Serie A’s most progressive coaches.

Roma have endured several turbulent years since their Europa Conference League triumph under Jose Mourinho, with managerial changes, inconsistent league form and ongoing pressure to return to the Champions League.

That backdrop made Ranieri’s presence valuable, but the club have now chosen to streamline leadership and remove distractions.

For supporters, the key message is clear: Roma believe stability, structure and Gasperini’s coaching methods can deliver the progress they have lacked.

Ranieri departs with gratitude from the club, while Gasperini now takes centre stage in Roma’s latest rebuild.
