The Austrian, who joined the German champions from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2023, is now tied to Bayern Munich until the summer of 2029. The 49-year-old's new deal follows similar extensions for chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen and sporting board member Max Eberl, both of whom also committed their futures to the club until 2029 in recent weeks.

"We have begun an exciting journey together, and there is still so much we want to achieve.
"It is incredibly rewarding to work together here to constantly create new energy, so that FC Bayern remains exactly where our fans — and all of us — want to see the club: right at the very top."
Dreesen praised Freund's contribution to the club's recent success.
"Christoph Freund plays a central role in all our sporting decisions — and we are delighted that he will continue to work for FC Bayern in the future too. The successes of recent years are largely thanks to his excellent work," he said.
The chief executive also highlighted Freund's relationship with head coach Vincent Kompany and his role bridging the first team with the club's youth setup.
"Christoph has an excellent working relationship with Vincent Kompany, is deeply involved with the team and at the same time keeps a close eye on all sporting matters," Dreesen said. "When he joined FC Bayern in 2023, we expected him not only to give our first team an important boost, but also to bring fresh perspectives to our youth structure and the connection between the first team and the Campus. He has more than fulfilled these expectations, and we look forward to continuing to develop our entire sporting operation together with him."
Freund shares responsibility for Bayern's football operations with Eberl, whose own extension to 2029 was confirmed shortly before Freund's, as part of a broader push by the club's leadership to lock down continuity across its sporting hierarchy following a strong transfer window and a productive start to the season under Kompany.
Since arriving in Munich, Freund has also taken on a growing role overseeing Bayern's academy structure, working alongside development director Jochen Sauer to strengthen the pathway between the club's youth teams and the first-team squad — an area Dreesen specifically highlighted as exceeding the club's original expectations when Freund was appointed.
