The 20-year-old's season at Tottenham was a struggle, with the club only just securing Premier League survival, and Bergvall found himself out of favour under manager Roberto De Zerbi for large stretches of the campaign.
He is under contract at Spurs until the summer of 2031, but the lack of regular game time has fuelled speculation over his future.
"It's not something I'm focused on right now. It's been a tough season, as I said. But now the focus is on the World Cup and being here," Bergvall told Fotbollskanalen a few weeks before the tournament began.
With the World Cup now under way, reports suggest one club is watching the Swede particularly closely during the finals.
Journalist Simon Phillips reports that Chelsea have scouts in place to run the rule over Bergvall during the tournament.
The interest is said to stem from new manager Xabi Alonso, who is reportedly keen on the midfielder ahead of the summer window.
Tottenham could also be open to selling, according to the same reports, with the north London club said to be targeting Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali, 26, who plays a similar role to Bergvall in midfield.
The Italian is expected to cost in the region of £105m, a fee that may force Tottenham into player sales to help fund a deal.
Bergvall finished the season with one goal and five assists in 33 appearances in all competitions, roughly half of them starts.
The Sweden international joined Tottenham from Djurgarden in 2024 with significant expectations attached, having been one of the most highly-rated young midfielders to emerge from Scandinavian football in recent years. His struggle for regular minutes under De Zerbi this season represents the first real setback of his career in England.
A strong World Cup could yet change the calculus for all parties involved. Should Bergvall continue to impress on the biggest stage, Tottenham may find themselves with a stronger negotiating position than reports currently suggest, even as the club simultaneously explores ways to fund a move for Tonali elsewhere in midfield.
