The deal, announced on Bournemouth's official website, arrives in the same week that Wales under-21 manager Matty Jones named the 19-year-old in his squad for the final UEFA U21 EURO 2027 qualifiers: away to Belgium on 29 September and at home to Austria at the Oval in Caernarfon on 6 October, according to the Football Association of Wales.
Stevens has been with the Cherries since the under-eights. By the time his two-year scholarship began in 2023 he had already turned out for the under-18s at the age of 15, and he has since become an established name in the Academy.
“I'm buzzing to have signed a new contract. I'm really excited for the years to come and am looking forward to more hard work.”
This summer gave him a taste of first-team football. In Austria, where the senior squad held its camp ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, Stevens got game time against FC St Pauli and FC Augsburg. Alongside that, he helped the development squad win the Tournoi Européen in France, where a late winner from Stevens in the last group game took Alan Connell's side into the final. They beat Real Sociedad 1-0 to lift the trophy.
“It was an amazing pre-season, quite surreal for me being involved with the first team.
"The staff and players were great and integrated us into the team well, which then helped boost my confidence. I've taken that into the season and am delighted with how we've started it.
“I'd like to give a special mention to the coaches and staff in the Academy for continuing to believe in me. It's a great place for me to grow and learn, and I can't wait to continue my journey here.”
For now Stevens stays with the development squad, with the aim of building on that first-team experience. His international record has grown alongside it: he featured in Wales' group games at the 2024 UEFA Under-17 European Championship, and he was in the Wales squad for this summer's Under-19 European Championship, which was staged in north Wales.
Sam Gisborne, the club's Head of Academy, said:
“This is a great one for everyone. Charlie has been with us a long time and everyone who has worked with him is so pleased how the start of the season has gone for him. Personally, I have coached him at U9's so it's nice to see it get to this stage.”
