Mohya’s performances have attracted attention from several major clubs, including Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig.
Sky Sport reports that Borussia Monchengladbach want to extend his deal beyond its current 2028 expiry, while interest from elsewhere has made the negotiations an important priority.
Sport Bild reports that both sides have agreed to approach discussions calmly, reflecting the trust between the club and the player’s representatives. Gladbach are keen to delay any potential sale for as long as possible, but the club’s sporting director Rouven Schröder has acknowledged that selling players can be part of the club’s financial model.
“One thing is clear: he will not play for Borussia Mönchengladbach his whole life. You cannot stop the need to generate transfer profits. That is not always something fans want to hear,” Schröder said.
Mohya, who is 17, drew widespread attention after his performance in Gladbach’s 3-2 win over VfB Stuttgart last weekend. The club are now seeking to turn his progress into a longer-term commitment, rather than allow interest from rival sides to dictate the timing of his departure.
Sky Sport reports that Gladbach believe an agreement is possible, but that a release clause could be a condition of the new deal. The club currently have Mohya under contract until 2028, and no release clause is understood to exist in his present agreement.
The possibility of including one would represent a compromise: Gladbach could extend the contract and improve the player’s terms, while Mohya’s camp would have a clearer route to a future move if a suitable offer arrives. The size of any clause has not been reported.
A number of leading German clubs are monitoring the situation, and Sky Sport has also reported interest from teams outside Germany. However, a January departure is not currently considered likely, with Gladbach hoping to keep the teenager and continue his development.
The club’s immediate task is to reach an agreement that works for both parties. Mohya’s contract still has time to run, but the attention surrounding him means negotiations are already under way. Any extension would be a significant step towards keeping one of Gladbach’s most closely watched young players at the club beyond 2028.
