Toulouse have opened negotiations to extend Guillaume Restes’ contract as interest in the highly rated goalkeeper continues to grow, with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain among the clubs reportedly monitoring his progress.

According to L’Équipe, Toulouse want to secure the future of the 21-year-old, whose current deal expires in June 2028. The club are aware that his emergence has attracted attention from some of Europe’s biggest sides and are moving to strengthen their position.

Restes was also linked with Aston Villa, Ipswich Town and Napoli during the summer transfer window. L’Équipe reported that those clubs had explored the possibility of signing him, although Toulouse did not receive an offer that persuaded them to sanction a departure.

The goalkeeper ultimately remained with his boyhood club and has continued to develop under head coach Jens Berthel Askou. His situation has since changed further following his first senior France call-up under national team manager Zinédine Zidane, increasing his profile and potentially intensifying the competition for his signature.

Toulouse’s decision to begin renewal discussions is therefore an important step in protecting one of their most valuable young players. Extending his contract would give the club greater security over his future, whether they retain him for the long term or eventually negotiate a transfer.

Restes is regarded as one of the most promising goalkeepers of his generation, having established himself as Toulouse’s first choice despite his age. His performances and development with the ball have contributed to the growing interest in his services.

Real Madrid’s reported interest would represent a particularly significant development, although any move to the Spanish giants remains speculative at this stage. Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with the goalkeeper, while Napoli, Aston Villa and Ipswich Town remain potential competitors.

For Toulouse, the immediate objective is to reach an agreement before further attention makes the situation more difficult to manage. Restes’ existing contract still has time to run, but the club appear determined to act early rather than allow uncertainty over his future to dominate the coming transfer windows.

The negotiations will now determine whether Toulouse can convince their academy graduate to commit to a longer stay as his reputation continues to rise.
