Bayern Munich add Gladbach teenager Wael Mohya to shopping list

Bayern Munich

Borussia Mönchengladbach are facing growing interest in Wael Mohya, with Bayern Munich among the clubs tracking the 17-year-old forward as his reputation continues to grow.

According to Sky Sport Germany, Bayern Munich have placed Mohya on their list of potential targets and are following his progress closely. Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen are also monitoring the Germany youth international, alongside clubs from abroad.

Mohya has made a strong impression during his emergence in the Borussia Monchengladbach first team. Capable of operating out wide or through the middle as a centre-forward, he offers versatility in attack despite his age.

His progress has accelerated this season. After making his senior debut last term, he has continued to earn opportunities and contribute in front of goal, strengthening the case for Gladbach to secure his future.

The club are understood to want a new agreement that would extend his current contract beyond 2028. A release clause could also form part of the discussions, although the details of any potential deal have not been confirmed.

Sky’s Florian Plettenberg has reported that a move during the January transfer window is considered unlikely. That would give Gladbach more time to negotiate with the player and his representatives, while the interested clubs continue assessing his development.

The longer-term picture may depend partly on Gladbach’s position in the Bundesliga. The report indicates that Mohya staying beyond next summer could be linked to the club retaining their top-flight status.

That creates a significant challenge for Gladbach. Keeping one of their most promising young players would be a sporting boost, but the attention from Bayern and other major sides could make negotiations more complicated if the club’s league position remains precarious.

Bayern’s interest reflects the wider competition among elite clubs to identify young talent before their value rises further. Mohya has already attracted attention through his performances, and a growing list of admirers could increase the pressure on Gladbach to agree terms.

There is, however, no indication in the reporting that a transfer is imminent. Bayern Munich are monitoring the teenager rather than preparing for a confirmed January move, while Gladbach are focused on the possibility of extending his stay.

For now, Mohya’s immediate future remains at the centre of a longer-term discussion. His performances have brought him to the attention of some of Germany’s biggest clubs, but Gladbach will hope a contract agreement and improved league fortunes can persuade him to continue his development at the club.
