Liverpool interest puts Valencia winger Otorbi’s future in focus

Liverpool are tracking Valencia winger David Otorbi, but the Spanish club have moved to protect their position by extending the teenager’s contract through 2031.

The reported interest, first detailed by Tribuna Deportiva, centres on the 19-year-old’s €30 million release clause. The outlet says Liverpool informed Valencia and the player’s representatives they were prepared to trigger it, prompting the club to activate the three-year extension that would raise the clause to €60 million.

Otorbi has emerged as a first-team option at Valencia this season, scoring once, according to the report. The right-sided attacker is viewed as a prospect for the future, and interest from the Premier League has accelerated the club’s efforts to secure his longer-term position.

Valencia’s move is designed to make a deal more expensive for any interested club. Tribuna Deportiva reports that the extension is expected to keep Otorbi at Mestalla until 2031, with the paperwork due to be completed shortly. The club have not publicly confirmed all the reported financial details.

Liverpool’s reported interest comes as the club continue to assess their options in wide attacking areas. The departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid left a gap at right-back, while Liverpool have also been linked with further attacking recruitment. Otorbi is primarily a winger rather than a direct replacement for Alexander-Arnold.

His representative, Nacho Gallart, recently acknowledged that clubs had been making contact about the player.

“He is a player who is in demand in the market, and he always has been. Quite a few clubs have contacted us in recent weeks. It is true that many clubs have called us, especially from the Premier League,” Gallart said earlier this month.

The report gives Liverpool a financial complication before any potential move develops. If Valencia complete the extension and the release clause rises as reported, a club hoping to sign Otorbi would face a much larger fee than the original €30 million figure.

Otorbi’s immediate situation may also need monitoring after Valencia confirmed he suffered a muscle injury during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat by Villarreal and had to leave the pitch. The club have not provided a recovery timetable in their match report.

For now, the interest remains reported rather than a completed transfer negotiation, and Valencia have acted to protect their position before the January window opens. Any move will depend on the final contract position, the fee and Liverpool’s willingness to pursue the winger at the higher valuation.
