Benfica defender Daniel Banjaqui is attracting growing interest from leading European clubs after breaking into the Portuguese side’s senior squad at just 18 years old.

The right-back has progressed through Benfica’s academy and began making his mark with the first team after gaining initial senior experience last season. His performances for Portugal’s Under-21 side have further raised his profile, prompting clubs across several major leagues to monitor his development.

Tottenham and Brighton are among the Premier League sides reportedly tracking the teenager. Juventus and Roma are interested from Italy, while Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are said to be watching him in Germany. Atlético Madrid and Real Sociedad have also been linked with the defender in Spain, reports 4-4-2-com.

Banjaqui’s physical strength, stamina and ability to contribute in attack are among the qualities attracting attention. He is comfortable in one-on-one situations and offers the pace and dynamism required to push forward from right-back.

His emergence has quickly increased his potential market value, but any club hoping to sign him would face a difficult negotiation with Benfica.

The defender is contracted to the Lisbon club until June 2031 and has a reported release clause of €45 million. Benfica are understood to value the academy graduate highly, with reports suggesting an offer in the region of €35 million could be needed to open serious discussions.

Despite the growing list of interested clubs, there is no indication that a transfer is imminent. The reported admirers have been monitoring Banjaqui and gathering information, with initial contacts through intermediaries said to have taken place, but concrete negotiations between Benfica and a prospective buyer have yet to begin.

Benfica are in a strong position to decide the player’s future because of the length of his contract and the financial terms attached to it. The club have invested in his development and will be keen to retain control over the timing and value of any potential sale.

For now, Banjaqui’s immediate task is to continue developing in Lisbon. His progress has put him on the radar of clubs across Europe, but a move will depend on whether any suitor is prepared to meet Benfica’s demands and offer a clear route into senior first-team football.
