Rolfes has served as sporting director since 2022, initially as head of the club's talent-scouting department before stepping up into the boardroom, working alongside chief executive Carro, in post since 2018, to transform Leverkusen into one of the Bundesliga's leading clubs.
Their partnership culminated in the club's first-ever league title in the 2023/24 season, a campaign that also delivered the DFB-Pokal and an unbeaten domestic run, before Bayer Leverkusen finished as runners-up in the Bundesliga and reached the Europa League final the following year.
Carro's new deal ties him to the role until the summer of 2029, while Rolfes has committed even further, extending his contract until 2031 and guaranteeing at least five more years in the position.
Rolfes, a former Leverkusen captain during his playing days, reflected on what the extension meant to him personally.
"Bayer 04 is my sporting home for many years. This contract extension therefore means a great deal to me. We have together created a strong foundation on which we want to continue building. Our aim is to position Bayer 04 as an organisation that can regularly compete with the best teams in Europe and challenge for the biggest honours," he said.
Carro echoed those sentiments, adding: "Our ambition remains to keep improving at every level and to continue competing for titles, both nationally and internationally."
Despite a dip in results last season, the club, currently a Champions League participant, said it was delighted with the pair's work at the helm and had made retaining them together a clear priority for the coming years, prizing the continuity and stability they represent, with club chairman Werner Wenning praising their role in both the club's sporting success and its wider long-term development.
