Bayer Leverkusen are closing in on a contract extension for Kofane that would tie the Cameroon striker to the BayArena until 2031, according to Kicker.
The 20-year-old has been one of the breakout talents of the Bundesliga since joining from Spanish second-tier side Albacete in July 2025. He contributed five goals and four assists in 29 league appearances last season, 12 of them from the start, and has already found the net twice in three competitive outings this term.
Kofane's rapid rise has attracted interest from some of Europe's most powerful clubs. Arsenal have been heavily linked with the forward, while Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea have also been mentioned as potential suitors.
The player's agent indicated earlier this year that Arsenal were best placed to secure a deal, though no agreement was reached during the summer window.
Leverkusen are now taking steps to protect their asset. The proposed new deal would extend Kofane's stay by two years beyond his current 2029 contract and is expected to include a significant salary increase to around €4 million per year. Crucially, the agreement is understood to contain no release clause, giving the club full control over any future transfer.
The long-term strategy is clear. Leverkusen hope that by securing Kofane on improved terms now, they will be in a position to command a fee in excess of €100 million when they eventually decide to sell. The 1.89-metre striker has already demonstrated the physicality, pace and finishing ability that mark him out as a potential world-class centre-forward.
Kofane has also made an impression on the international stage, scoring two goals in six appearances for Cameroon. His journey from the Cameroonian academy system to Albacete's youth team and then to the Bundesliga in little more than a year is one of the most remarkable rapid rises in recent European football.
Sporting director Simon Rolfes, who oversaw Kofane's initial recruitment, described him as "an extremely powerful and fast striker, technically gifted and very prolific" upon his arrival. That assessment looks increasingly prescient as Kofane continues to develop under Xabi Alonso's guidance.
The new contract would be a significant statement of intent from Leverkusen, who have a track record of nurturing young talent before selling at a premium.
