The England captain is approaching the end of his current agreement, which expires after this season, but negotiations with Bayern have made significant progress. Kane provided an update during Monday’s press conference ahead of the Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid, saying the remaining work was largely down to final details.
“We had really good conversations over the weekend and again today,” he said.
“I know I keep saying we are close, but we are extremely close now. I would say it is a matter of days, not weeks.”
The 33-year-old explained that the main points had been agreed and that the remaining issues would now need to be settled by the lawyers.
“A lot of the bigger stuff has been ironed out and we are happy with that, but in every contract there are lots of little things that need to be worked through. Hopefully we will be in a position to do something within the next few days.”
Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham in the summer of 2023 and has become central to the club’s success. He has repeatedly spoken positively about his decision to move to Germany, and his latest comments suggest he is close to committing his future to the Bundesliga champions.
The contract discussion was not the only subject that drew attention in Madrid. Kane was also asked about Spanish football and whether he had ever wanted to play in LaLiga.
The striker admitted that the prospect had appealed to him while growing up, particularly because of the success of the Spanish national team and the rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
“Of course, when I was growing up, the Spanish national team always impressed me, winning the Euros and the World Cup. Also Barcelona and Real Madrid, with Messi, Ronaldo and players like that. Spanish football has always been at a top level,” he said.
Kane explained that he had never had a realistic opportunity to move to Spain, having spent so much of his career at Tottenham before deciding to join Bayern.
“Never, really, have I had the possibility of playing here in Spain. If it had been possible in the past, obviously I would have liked it, but I didn't have that opportunity.”
He was quick to stress that he has no regrets about the route his career has taken.
“Every path leads you to a destination and my path at Bayern Munich has been very successful, so I am very happy.”
The immediate focus remains Tuesday’s meeting with Atletico, but Kane’s comments have offered a clear indication that his Bayern future is close to being settled.
