Torrents has signed a contract running to 2030 with Ajax, and while neither club has disclosed the exact terms, reports suggest Barcelona have received around €5 million while retaining a percentage of any future sale.
The academy graduate was called up 14 times with Barcelona's first team in LaLiga last season and featured in matches against Betis, Mallorca and Valencia. His progress was interrupted by a syndesmosis injury to his left ankle, sustained in February 2026 during a Barça Atlètic match against Alcoyano, which sidelined him for between 10 and 12 weeks.
The left-back passed his medical with the Amsterdam club in recent hours and is now officially an Ajax player, bringing to a close a spell at La Masia that began when he joined as a young boy in the club's junior ranks.
Torrents leaves as one of several young Barcelona defenders to move on this summer, with the club having faced increasingly stiff internal competition for places across the back line.
Born in La Selva del Camp, Torrents made his senior debut for Barcelona last season and won four trophies during his time coming through the club's youth system, including the Joan Gamper Trophy and Spanish Super Cup with the first team, alongside the Copa del Rey Juvenil and UEFA Youth League with Barcelona's Under-19 side.
His departure follows a similar path to that of former Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen's own exit from the club, with Ajax increasingly looking to Barcelona's academy for promising young talent.
The move leaves Barcelona relatively light at left-back heading into the new season, with Alejandro Balde having struggled with recurring fitness issues throughout preseason.
Sporting director Deco is understood to be assessing the market for additional cover in that position as the transfer window enters its final stretch, even as the club continues to prioritise other areas of the squad.
