The 21-year-old, born in Arlon on 9 November 2004, came through the youth academies of Sporting Charleroi, KAS Eupen and Stade Malherbe Caen before beginning his senior career in France.
He is no stranger to Belgian football, having spent the 2023-24 season on loan at KV Mechelen in the Jupiler Pro League, where he impressed during his time in the division.
Bassette moved to Coventry City in 2024, but has struggled to establish himself at the Championship club, managing just two goals in 29 appearances before being loaned out in each of the past two seasons - first to Stade de Reims in France, then to German second-tier side Kaiserslautern, scoring twice in each spell.
His talent has also been recognised at international level. Bassette made his senior debut for Belgium in 2024 under then-national team coach Domenico Tedesco, earning a single cap, and remains a regular for the Belgium Under-21s under Gill Swerts, for whom he has scored six goals.
Westerlo, who finished ninth in the Belgian top flight last season, see the move as a chance to add firepower up front following the departure of Ferri, with the club having opened talks with Coventry over a fortnight ago before finalising the agreement this week.

For Coventry City, the loan represents a second consecutive summer in which Bassette has been sent out on his travels, with the club having signed him from Caen in 2024 on a four-year deal but never quite finding a settled role for him. His departure also frees up space in a Coventry squad now adjusting to the demands of Premier League football following their promotion.
