Virgil van Dijk has called for Alisson Becker to remain at Liverpool this summer, as the Brazilian goalkeeper weighs a return to Italy amid a serious approach from Juventus.

The 33-year-old, who has been Liverpool's first-choice goalkeeper since joining from Roma in 2018, is understood to be tempted by a move to the Turin club, where he would reunite with Luciano Spalletti — the coach who first established him as one of Europe's elite stoppers during their time together at Roma in the late 2010s.

Juventus have held talks with Alisson's representatives and are prepared to offer a deal of two years with an option for a third, or a straight three-year contract — significantly longer than the one year remaining on his current Liverpool deal. Liverpool have already triggered a contract extension clause that keeps him at Anfield until 2027, but that does not rule out a summer sale.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Alisson is open to the move, though he has no intention of forcing a departure.

Van Dijk, speaking to ESPN, was clear about where he stands.

"He is one of the leaders of the team and I think he is very important on the pitch because I think he is one of the best — in my opinion the best — goalkeeper in the world," the Dutch defender said. "Would I want him to stay? Of course."

Van Dijk acknowledged the inevitability of change while expressing the weight such a loss would carry.

"Listen, there will always come a day when you — including myself — will leave. But it would definitely be a big setback if Alisson leaves. I don't think it's a good idea for me to think about what can or can't happen."

Liverpool are already bracing for the exits of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson when the season concludes. Losing Alisson in the same window would strip the club of three pillars of its leadership group simultaneously. A potential swap involving Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio has been discussed as one solution that could ease the transition for both clubs.

The decision on Alisson's future rests with Liverpool's board.
