The move follows the earlier arrivals of Juan Iglesias, Jon Guridi, Arouna Sangante and Julio Diaz, plus a renewed loan for goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos, and will see Gonzalez join Sevilla's pre-season training camp in Garderen, the Netherlands, once the deal is finalised.
Sevilla will pay around €3m plus variables for 50 per cent of the goalkeeper's rights, with several buy-back clauses built into the agreement across the next three transfer windows, ranging from €3m to €5m — a structure similar to the one used for Julio Diaz's move and typical of how Real Madrid tend to structure academy sales.
Gonzalez, from Leon, has already agreed personal terms on a contract running to June 2031. He joined Real Madrid's academy four years ago from Cultural Leonesa and has been Castilla's first-choice goalkeeper for the past two seasons, making around 50 appearances for the reserve side. He also has senior experience, having made his first-team debut against Valencia at the Santiago Bernabeu in LaLiga's 30th round of the 2024-25 season, becoming the youngest goalkeeper to debut for Real Madrid's first team since Iker Casillas.
His arrival intensifies competition for the No 1 shirt at the Sanchez-Pizjuan, with Vlachodimos currently first choice and Gonzalez shaping up as his closest challenger. That leaves academy product Alberto Flores facing an uncertain future: head coach Luis Garcia Plaza handed him a late call-up to start the first half of a friendly against NEC Nijmegen, but with his path to regular football at Sevilla now further blocked, Flores may look elsewhere to continue his development.
Standing at 1.99m, Gonzalez has built a reputation within Real Madrid's academy for his commanding presence and reliability in the air, qualities that helped make him one of the most highly regarded young goalkeepers to come through La Fabrica in recent years.
Real Madrid's decision to retain half of his economic rights, along with the buy-back options, reflects the club's usual approach of keeping a route back for promising academy graduates who move on before establishing themselves at senior level, even as Mourinho's arrival as head coach has accelerated the process of moving him on this summer.
