The Dutch press are reporting Van Hecke is now prioritising Tottenham over all other suitors.
Van de Ven spoke to reporters at a press conference in White Plains, near New York, where the Netherlands squad are based ahead of the World Cup.
"I did talk to Jan Paul briefly about Tottenham. I think it is a good step for him."
Reports in the Netherlands published on Sunday evening suggested that Van Hecke has already agreed personal terms with Tottenham, though Brighton CEO Paul Barber confirmed earlier in the day that the club has rejected two bids from Spurs and has interest from multiple other clubs in addition. Barber emphasised that any deal must work for Brighton's model as well as the player.
Brighton are holding firm at approximately £70m and Van Hecke has one year left on his contract having declined to sign an extension. That combination gives Tottenham leverage over time, though Brighton have made clear they are under no pressure to reduce their asking price.
Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman acknowledged the situation but preferred it resolved quickly.
"Ideally, I would prefer a player to have peace of mind regarding his club. And that there is clarity about the future. But I cannot stop it."
Van Hecke has played under Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton — a relationship that is understood to be a significant pull factor.
