The Dutch outlet reports Valencia have already lodged a formal offer for the 22-year-old, though the exact figure involved hasn't been made public.
Standing at a towering 1.99m, Van Oevelen caught the eye of clubs across the Eredivisie and further afield following his first season as a regular starter in Dutch football's top flight. The Zaandam-born goalkeeper could not prevent Volendam's relegation, though, with the newly-promoted side falling in a penalty shootout to Willem II in the promotion play-off final.
Getting it done is another matter. Volendam have reportedly valued their goalkeeper at between โฌ2m and โฌ3m, a considerable sum for a player still developing with only one top-flight season under his belt โ and a fee that would rank among the biggest sales in the club's history. Across 64 official appearances for Volendam, Van Oevelen has kept 13 clean sheets.
The move would address a genuine need at Mestalla. Coach Carlos Corberan currently has Stole Dimitrievski as his first-choice goalkeeper following Julen Agirrezabala's injury in the middle of last season, while Athletic Bilbao loanee Cristian Rivero, whose loan spell at the club has now concluded, sits as third choice โ with Valencia actively trying to find him a move elsewhere for regular football.
Valencia are not alone in their pursuit. De Telegraaf also reports that FC Twente held talks of their own with Van Oevelen, though the figures being discussed are understood to have complicated that interest, with Twente reportedly weighing up cheaper alternatives to succeed the ageing Lars Unnerstall instead.
Should Volendam secure their asking price, the sale would rank among the biggest in the club's history, behind only Micky van de Ven's move to Wolfsburg, which brought in a reported โฌ8.5m.
It would also continue a familiar pathway between the two clubs and Spanish football more broadly, with former Volendam goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen having previously spent time at Valencia earlier in his career.
