Sunderland have sent academy players Bayley Hester, Finlay Holcroft and Jaydon Jones out on one-month loans as the youngsters look to gain experience in senior football.

The three moves will give the Black Cats prospects an opportunity to test themselves in the men’s game, with each player joining a club competing outside the Premier League.

Centre-back Hester has joined Heaton Stannington, who compete in Northern Premier League Division One East. The club were sixth in the table at the time of the announcement, giving the Sunderland youngster an opportunity to gain regular minutes in a competitive senior environment.

Defender Holcroft has moved to National League North side Spennymoor Town. The switch represents another step in his development after he previously spent time on loan at Whitby Town towards the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

Holcroft made five appearances during that spell and has since signed his first professional contract with Sunderland. He also earned recognition as the club’s Under-18s Player of the Year and made 17 appearances for the Under-21s in the previous campaign.

Spennymoor will provide another opportunity for the young defender to build on that experience. He primarily operates at centre-back but can also cover other positions across the back line.

Jones has joined Hebburn Town, also of the National League North, for the next month. His move completes a trio of temporary departures intended to help Sunderland’s academy players develop through regular senior football.

Loan spells can be an important part of the transition from academy football to the first team, exposing young players to the physical demands and competitive pressure of the senior game.

For Sunderland, the three deals allow Hester, Holcroft and Jones to continue their development away from the academy environment while gaining experience that could help their longer-term prospects at the Stadium of Light.

All three arrangements are for one month, with the players due to return to Sunderland at the end of their respective spells unless further agreements are made.
