De Miguel, 30, died on Tuesday after suffering a cardiac arrest following a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during the teams' meeting at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López. The tragedy has prompted tributes across Spanish football, with the club involved in the incident and former Tenerife players seeking ways to support his loved ones.
FC Andorra president Ferran Vilaseca addressed the media to express the club's condolences to De Miguel's family, Tenerife and everyone close to the player.
“We appear today deeply moved by the death of Jesús de Miguel,” Vilaseca said. “We want to extend our most sincere condolences to his family, Club Deportivo Tenerife and all those close to him. We know that no words can ease such pain, but we want them to know that we share their sadness and stand by their side.”
Vilaseca confirmed that Andorra had remained in contact with Tenerife and the relevant authorities since the incident. He also announced that the club had requested the postponement of its next fixture against Mallorca.
“What happened has had a great emotional impact on our players, coaching staff and everyone who is part of FC Andorra,” he said.
The club is providing psychological support to anyone affected, while reiterating its commitment to helping those involved.
“We are a team, on and off the field. Now more than ever, we must stand together, support each other and take care of one another,” Vilaseca added.
Fran Sol, who played for Tenerife and now represents Hércules, has also taken action by launching a GoFundMe campaign for De Miguel's family. The two forwards did not play together at Tenerife, having represented the club at different times, but Sol said he and his family felt a particular connection to the situation.
“ My family and I wanted to really help and not just repost things on Instagram,” Sol wrote in the fundraiser. “We feel very identified with him and his family, so this is a fund to help them. The money won't bring them comfort, but the gesture of donating will make the family truly feel the support of the football world.”
Sol said all money raised would go to De Miguel's son, wife and parents.
Real Madrid coach José Mourinho also paid tribute before his team's Champions League match against AEK Athens, acknowledging the impact on the family and on Owono.
“It's hard, it's very sad,” Mourinho said. “The words and feelings go to the family and friends of Jesús. It must also be a very difficult moment for the other player involved in the situation.”
The messages reflect the grief felt across the game following the loss of the Tenerife forward.
