Muslic, 43, told ZDF's Sportstudio on Saturday evening that he intends to remain in Gelsenkirchen for the foreseeable future, dampening any speculation over a near-term departure from the Veltins-Arena.
"I plan to stay at Schalke for a very long time," Muslic said.
The head coach did leave the door open to a return to international football at some point, revealing his connection to his country of birth remains strong despite his long career in Germany, Austria and England.
"I still feel very connected to Bosnia," Muslic said. "I'm still a young coach and I have time. But one day I could imagine it."
Muslic's current contract at Schalke runs until 2028, having been extended by a further year following the club's promotion back to the Bundesliga last season under his guidance.
The Bosnian-born coach has proven a shrewd appointment for Schalke since arriving in 2025 from English club Plymouth Argyle, who had just been relegated from the second tier to the third tier under his management before his departure for Germany.
Muslic guided Schalke back to the Bundesliga in his first season in charge, ending a difficult period for the historic German club, and he remains popular with his players in the dressing room and among supporters across the Ruhr region.
Captain Kenan Karaman described him as "a huge asset for Schalke," reflecting the esteem in which the head coach is held by his squad.
Schalke have made a solid start to life back in the top flight, having picked up four points from their opening three matches of the new campaign, and Muslic's comments will be welcomed by supporters keen to build on the momentum generated by promotion.
The head coach also touched on his personal background during the same appearance, having left Bosnia as a child before beginning his coaching career in Austria and England prior to his move to Schalke, where he has quickly become one of the Bundesliga's most respected young coaches this season, having transformed the club's fortunes in just over a year.
