Sporting director Ole Book acknowledged Sancho's qualities in comments made earlier this week, describing the 24-year-old as someone who has "shown great creativity and very strong performances in the past" for Borussia Dortmund.
He added that the club would consider him alongside all other available options on the European market. However, the tone of Kicker's more recent reporting is that momentum has shifted away from a reunion at the Westfalenstadion.
Manchester United's position is clear. The club intend to let Sancho's contract expire rather than exercise the extension option in his current deal, making him a free agent this summer. United want to remove his wages from the books entirely.
Sancho spent the season on loan at Aston Villa, where he operated mainly as an impact substitute, rarely nailing down a consistent starting role. Villa, who reached the Europa League final, have not ruled out a permanent move but have yet to make a formal decision. Given the limited game time he accumulated in the second half of the season, a significant transfer fee would be difficult to justify.
Sancho won two Bundesliga titles and the DFB-Pokal during his first spell at Dortmund between 2017 and 2021 before joining United for 85 million pounds. He spent part of last season on loan at PSG.
