The 20-year-old joined Köln from local rivals Viktoria Köln in the summer of 2024, initially remaining with his former club on loan before establishing himself in the first team.
His performances have since attracted attention from several prominent clubs across Europe. Borussia Dortmund were among those linked with a move last summer, while Milan, Roma, Brighton and Brentford have also been mentioned as potential admirers.
Paris Saint-Germain have now emerged as another club monitoring the winger, with reports in Germany suggesting the French champions are interested in his development.
El Mala was asked about the speculation and made clear that he was flattered by the attention, even if he was unsure how to respond to the reports.
"I don't know what to think about it. It would be wrong if I didn't feel honoured by it. It's a huge club. I've also read about it, to be honest. I don't really know what to think about it," he told Sky Germany.
The links have emerged amid concerns over the availability of PSG forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has been reported to be facing a lengthy spell out with a knee injury.
However, subsequent reporting has indicated that PSG's interest in El Mala should not necessarily be interpreted as a plan to bring him in as a direct replacement, with a January move not currently expected.
For Cologne, the most significant development is that their young attacker remains under contract until the summer of 2031. He signed an extension in the summer, strengthening the club's position should interest from elsewhere develop into formal approaches.
El Mala, meanwhile, is determined not to allow speculation to distract him from his performances in Germany.
"I said it often last year when the rumours started coming. I am only focusing on what is happening here. I want to play football and perform well. I want to help the club, just as they help me, and make the city and the club happy. Then we'll see what happens," he said.
His immediate ambition, therefore, remains firmly centred on Köln. The attention from abroad is a recognition of his progress, but the winger has made clear that his priority is continuing to develop and deliver for the club that has given him his opportunity in the Bundesliga.
